North Georgia State Fair Needs Volunteers

 

The Fair is coming! Preparations are underway for the Small Standard Flower Shows at the North Georgia State Fair, September 21 thru October 1st, at Jim Miller Park.   Lots of opportunities to participate in this fun event as it returns in its full glory.  Please share this information with your club members and urge them to participate.  Remember, this show is a major fundraiser for the Marietta Garden Council.

Design Entry

Have some fun and get your creative “juices” flowing! Create a Multi-Rhythmic Design, Creative Line Design, Illuminary Design, Construction Design, Parallel Design or Functional Table for the Flower Show!  Contact Holly Walquist to learn more and/or register to enter. hollywalquist@icloud.com  (770) 424-4664.  No special training or experience required to enter. Enter horticulture specimens on site:  no pre-registration required

1ST FLOWER SHOW:

  • Tuesday, September 19 at 1:30pm – paint niches (dress to paint)
  • Wednesday, September 20 at 10:00am – setup 1st show (wear comfortable shoes)
  • Tuesday, September 26 at 1:00pm – take down 1st show/setup 1st show (wear comfortable shoes)

2ND FLOWER SHOW:

  • Tuesday, September 26 at 1pm – take down 1st show/setup 2nd show (wear comfortable shoes)
  • Monday, October 2 at 10:00am to 1pm – tear down show (wear comfortable shoes)
  • Setting up and dressing tables and niches for the show.

Horticulture Placement

Carrying horticultural exhibits to their appropriate positions on the show floor, insuring that there is sufficient water for stems, positioning exhibits for accessibility by judges and show appearance. Volunteers needed during intake times as shown above.

Thursday, September 21 and Wednesday, September 27, beginning at 11:00am. Includes lunch with the judges. Also a short training is done prior to lunch – Linda or Deborah will let you know what time you should arrive.

Hospitality

Volunteers are needed to assist with hospitality. Setting up and distributing snacks for the Judges at each show.  This would be about a 3-4 hour job and would require drinks and snacks for judges, clerks and volunteers.  The second activity is serving food at each event.  Also prepared snacks may be needed that can be prepared prior to the day of judging, let Suzie and Karen know if you are interested in this opportunity.  Contact Suzie Martin (404) 617-3779  or Karen Miller at (770) 427-1523 for more details.

Educational Exhibits
